Finally in Bloom!

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.

-Edna St. Vincent Millay

Spring is one of my most favorite times of year. Of course, in Alabama it often seems that we skip spring and scoot right in to summer. Frost gives way to 90 degree heat in what feels like a matter of hours.

Fortunately, warm temperatures bring out ladies in big hats, seersucker for the guys and the technicolor dream flora on every hillside and thankfully, in my yard. The picture is of our first day lily of the season, Janie Lovelace. It is always exciting to see the foliage sprout and my patience wanes as the shoots appear and buds form. This morning was the culmination of my impatience. The dogs have a morning routine of 'potty time' and it surely caught them off guard when I bolted out in to the yard to admire the first glorious bloom of the season.

We have a handful of varieties of day lilys, thanks to a close family friend that has a day lily farm in her family(Can you imagine how rewarding that would be?!) and I'll share more of the bounty as soon as they bloom.

Hopefully our single lily, or my revelry in it's glory brings a bright moment to your day. At last, Spring is here!
