My Dad is Way Cool

So it's that time again when greeting card studios get to make a ton of cash doling out niceties about fathers. I'm not falling in to that trap this year.

Instead of writing some dirty innuendo or embarrassing joke in a card, I thought, why not write it on my blog for everyone to see?!

Here we are.

So to start: My dad is way cooler than your dad. It's a harsh reality, but you're going to have to deal with it.

My dad rides a motorcycle... heck, he even smiles while he rides a motorcycle which indicates what a nice guy he is. Dad has seen every Law & Order, CSI and can recall the plot of at least 3/4 of the movies on Lifetime. The variety of programming shows that he embraces nabbing the bad guys and understands how to be sensitive to a 16 year old pregnant girl who has terminal brain cancer but wants to run a marathon and save a pack of endangered goats before she dies/has a baby(Lifetime's movies are complicated... gotta give it to him for being able to keep up).

Have something that's torn up? Dad can fix it. Something tears up at my house and I think... "Hmm... google." I find a zillion ways to do something, fail and then call Dad. How does he know how to do it? My Dad was the original google for solving problems.

Dad can grill the perfect steak... on a travel grill that can only accommodate 2 steaks at a time. How? Who knows?

My dad still wears cut-off jean shorts from the early 80's. No, not Tebow Jorts but the kind Tom Selleck wears. You have to be out-of-this world cool to wear those.

Dad is a cabinet guy. He always has been, and I guess he always will be. In all seriousness, the reason that any of our family(and almost all have been at one point or another) has been in/around or successful in this industry is because of Dad.

My dad worked for the same company for a very long time, in a very small town. I still meet people that tell me they worked for Dad at one time and how great of a guy he is. Who wouldn't think that's cool?

I am fortunate now to be able to work with my dad on almost a daily basis. So few of my friends get to see their parents as often as I do and I am extremely thankful.

So here's to you Dad!

(Don't be embarrassed, I could have called Mom and actually FOUND a picture of you in those shorts!)

  3. What a GREAT post! And let me start by saying WAR EAGLE!!! Thank you for your comment on my cabinet transformation. I have not stained them or glazed them and have about decided not to, mainly cos' I'm scared I will screw them up! lol And I am really liking the way they look without anything else on top! I worried about it "grabbing" the wood grain and not looking how I envisioned. That happens to me alot!

    Thank you for visiting!

  4. Glad you chose not to glaze, Lou Cinda. I'm glad you're happy with the way they look and you are absolutely right that the grain would grab that glaze!

War Eagle right back at ya!
