Your Wallpaper Will Never Be This Cool

Everyone knows I LOVE wallpaper(any wall covering, really).

What really makes me happy is to see a wall covering that goes above and beyond(literally and figuratively) the limitations of the plain wall.

carnovsky is a design duo from Italy that has created some of the deepest and wildest wall coverings I've ever seen. Called RGB(you'll get in in a minute), the coverings are multi-leveled images in primary colors and then exposed to various light filters(like Red, Green and Blue) to show the true depth of the images.

Take a look:

This is an exhibition at Jaguarshoes in London and is completely rocking awesome... They really took a deep look at the jungle theme.

You can skip over to Jaguarshoes and even pick up some prints made for the occasion... It's all brilliant, don't you think?

Friday Find - Old Try

I love anything that oozes Southern.

Rarely does something so Southern exist so far north of the Mason/Dixon line, but that's where Old Try has set up shop and is creating some of the finest Southern heritage prints I've seen in a really long time.

Old Try is the brainchild of a transplanted Southern couple now in Massachusetts. They use a real letterpress with movable type and wood blocks for their prints, creating one-of-a-kind pieces with every move of the machine.

It's easy to see the depth of the colors and richness of the type- something typically lost with modern printing devices. (According  to the Old Try Blog, the grey and yellow from the print above were sampled from Confederate uniforms)

This would hang on my wall this second if I were an Ole Miss fan. Pure awesomeness.

Make sure that you scoot over to the Old Try site and look at the snippet of history behind each poster(learn something every day, right?). The Resurgens print is a throwback to the city of Atlanta and General Sherman.

And last(but certainly not least), the print that I am ordering and will hang somewhere in my world... Trying to decide between here at the shop or at home. The Alabama state flag with perhaps the most recognized words ever to be paired with our state's name.

The first time I saw this print it reminded me all over of how much I love where I live. Sure, we have our faults... But we eat better, talk slower(good for comprehension), and have prettier people than anywhere in the world. No matter where I go, this print would always sum up home for me. Pretty sweet, huh?

Now go over to their site and buy one(or all). The prints are 13" x 20" from all I can see and run $40(way cheap for a limited run, fine piece of art).

Mosaic ALIVE! Mendini for Bisazza

Just like most other kitchen designers I know, I'm more smitten with mosaics by each day that goes by... Today's mosaic happiness is WILD.

Mosaic tile design house Bisazza has again paired with designer Alessandro Mendini to celebrate their years of collaboration with an exhibition at La Triennale di Milano Design Museum.

The results are nothing short of stunning.

That chair is everything that is right with the world.

Mosaics will definitely be a hot item at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show next week in Las Vegas. Can't wait to see what some of the exhibiting companies have to show!

$10 Basement Makeover

Not everyone requires the services of an interior designer- Beyond that, not everyone requires more than a crisp $10 bill and a trip to the office supply store to appoint an entire basement with jaw-dropping wall appointments.
Wow.

A friend of mine emailed me the story of Charlie Kratzer from the Lexington(KY) Herald-Leader. Drawing inspiration from classical literature to the harlequin pattern from a Panera Bread take-out bag, this lawyer-by-day created quite the conversation piece in his Lexington home's basement. The article features a 180 degree visual of the room.

10 bucks in Sharpies, eh?

Recently, Charlie has taken his Sharpie skills to Horse Mania, a public art project. Charlie's entry was based on Alice in Wonderland.

What do you think? Sharpie-art in your future?

Friday Find - Deglon Meeting Knives

Deglon, a French cutlery staple, has been producing quality knife works since 1921. In 2006, pairing with designer Mia Schmallenbach, Deglon offered a set of knives titled "Meeting".

One quickly sees how the set got its name- containing a pairing, carving, chef's and filleting knife, the come together as one in their block.

This set can be purchased through Fante's Kitchen Wares for a cool $950. Check their site for additional pictures, care and use. VERY cool.

There's your "Friday Find"!

There Once was a Woman who Bathed in a Shoe...

After Debbie started her bath and gazed longingly on to the bay, she realized that had she not spent $27,000 on a gilded shoe bathtub, she could have had her very own toilet... her very own toilet.
__________________________________________________

27K... You read right. Ahh no worries, they start out at $17,000, but it's just like a car- the loaded ones that come in the good colors are ten-grand more.

Honestly... If I'm going to have a high-heel bathtub that costs $27,000, it better have wheels and take me to town.

Totally aside, I have become a StumbleUpon(shameless self-promotion, follow me here... and click that SU button at the bottom of this entry) nut, thanks to a few friends on Twitter. In my stumbling, I came across this divine disaster and immediately thought of two dynamic bloggers and foolishly asked them to blog about it. I knew that whatever they did would be gold because they are fantastic wordsmiths and know exactly how to entertain me(Yes, in my little world I imagine they write just for me).

Foolishness.

The link became viral and began eating up my Twitter friends. Today you can browse the web and see seven different takes on this lovely/horrible plumbing fixture. I'll link them all up at the bottom... Keep reading.

In the meantime, here's my favorite of the tubs, if I must have one.

Got to admit, the black looks nice. Too bad you need a 400 sq. ft. bathroom to fit it in.
And if you live in the Barbie-fun dream house... Pink should do the trick. I feel I must use the word fancy here. So there... fancy.

______________________________________________________

And now for the absolutely unbelievable part...

That stunner of a tub is made by SICIS, the Italian Art Factory. Everything they touch is brilliant, save the aforementioned tub. Their mosaic designs are purely genius and mesmerising. When you get finished with this, just go look at the super-awesomeness.

What makes me happy, you ask? Pin-ups. It's just my thing.

All out of tile... Look closely. Amazing. Doesn't hurt that the one gal looks startlingly like Judy Garland.

Shamrock walls in the bedroom? I'd move in here... today.

Now that's a tub I'd get in... Red? Check.

The first time I saw this pool room I thought, "That is my kind of spot. Now, where's my beverage?!"

Nothing says opulence like a gold bathtub. Divine.

It's hard for me to believe... I stumble upon a drag queen shoe-tub and am linked back to one of the most amazing mosaic design houses in the world.

Goes to show, can't always judge someone by the shoes they're wearing.

Now go look and see what everyone else did and while you're at it, follow them on Twitter. It's worth it, promise. Just click on the @name and their blog to see...

Move over McShower! - Porcher Soaking Tub

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the McShower- you know, the monster showers where it appears a designer took primary inspiration on scale from a college football locker room. It's one of the few places I am all for "bigger is better". I've even said there is no use for a tub at all- just one big, run-around in(maybe even a snack bar?), huge shower.

Eh and then I was exposed to this Tetsu Soaking Tub from Porcher.
Holy Cow! This tub was officially moved to my "Dead Sexy" list of voluptuous plumbing fixtures I lust over.

Talk about a winner... My McShower just shrunk a few feet.

Wholeo Dome

I am constantly drawn to stained glass, always looking for a practical way to use it in homes without being gaudy or cathedral-esque. The first time that I saw reference to the Wholeo Dome I knew that it was right up my alley.

Completed in 1974 by the artist Caroling, it now sits at the Farm School in Summertown, Tennessee.
The other appeal of the dome to me is its encouragement of meditation. I think that "slow" moments are unique to everyone, always called by a different name. Here in the South, the typical moment of calm comes on a breezy porch in a rocking chair with the sweetest glass of iced tea.

Reflecting is important- Whether you have a gazebo, a park bench under a thick cover of foliage, a courtyard or just a blanket you can take outside and sit a while, take a moment and look around- listen. You may be surprised what you're missing.
