Bathroom Fun: There's an Octopus in my Bathtub

Well, sometimes it's nice to have a little fun with your guests/kids/in-laws. If Pirates of the Caribbean has regular showings at your house or you just happen to be fascinated with octopuses(by the way, the plural of octopus is octopuses, octopi or octopodes. Now you're also as smart as you are stylish.), these fun decals will certainly make bath time entertaining.

Too many times I see homeowners take very drastic steps to make kid's rooms and areas whimsical and kid-friendly. 35 bucks and you have tentacles coming out of the bath tub!? Worth it.

Better than just being $35, the decals are removable without pulling down sheetrock and studs. Once your kid or husband gets out of his "Yaaarrr Matey" phase the decal pulls off pretty easily and presto, you can hang up a nice print from some arty, more adult place.

But in the meantime, have some fun and surprise your little sailor. I think I want to name the octopus coming out of my bathtub. I think I will name mine Lois.

Go ahead, splurge and buy one or two are all of them. I'm now waiting for the version that comes out of the toilet!

Friday Find - Bathtub or Armchair?

Yes, it's another wild bathtub on the blog...

This tub comes from Thomas Linssen and Studio Thol. The first time I saw the tub, I was completely enamored with the shape and form of the tub around the wooden frame... Make sure you're paying close attention.

See how the bathtub(a marble composite) is actually formed around the frame? Awesome, huh?

This is where the tub really gets it's shape. Linnsen explains that chairs are ergonomic and shaped his bathtub to follow the lines of the human body rather than just to hold the most water.

I must admit, I've been in some uncomfortable bathtubs. I like the idea of a tub that was designed specifically to be comfortable.

The frame looks startlingly like a deck chair to me... Would look great in a rustic setting!

Of course, everything has a lead time and a price. According to Studio Thol, you can have one of these with about 2 months advance notice for a cool  €12000($16,200 USD).

Do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched in the bathtub? Mooooooo! The next time that some one asks me what my design style is, I'm going to tell them 'Holstein'.

I love wooden bathtubs... In fact, tomorrow I'll have a whole big post about how much I like them and how I marvel at artisans that make them.

I have an Aroma Ice Cream maker, and while they are a fantastic machine, the design doesn't really evoke a major bath fixture for me. I can't get over how similar they are! 

Am I off my rocker here?

Nick's KBIS Picks: WETSTYLE IMAGE-in Collection

Continuing my posts on the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas.... Here's #2 of 7. 

I would venture to say that one of the growing trends in the kitchen and bath market is applying some sort of decor to a normally blank canvas. There are many ways that it shouldn't be done... Fortunately, WETSTYLE figured out a stunning way to jazz up the bathtub.

 Calligraphy 

All WETSTYLE soaking tubs are made by hand from the company's WETMAR natural stone composite material. Because of the high mineral content of WETMAR, these tubs are slip resistant and have great built in thermo-insulation.

Earth

The imaging seen is a result of combining a "True High Gloss" and a matte finish on the same surface. The gloss shows up in the pictures as the darker hue.

Each design can be "reversed" where the matte and gloss are switched... and even further customized!

Floral

WETSTYLE is offering the IMAGE-in tubs with the four pictured motifs as well as the ability for a homeowner to choose and create their own design. Because each piece is made to order, the opportunity for customization is limitless.

Water

Because the tubs are shades of white, one can see how a solid dark floor really shows the depth and artistic value of the design.

Trip-Planning KBIS 2011 - Kohler Elevance

So I'm a bit late to the Elevance party(Kohler showed it last year at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Atlanta), but I'm anxious to see more innovations in the "aging in place" and accessible but fashionable market.

The Kohler Elevance tub is a a rising wall system that provides an alternative to the walk-in tubs that have become so prevalent in the ADA compliant market. The tub is available with bubble massage jets and certainly makes most accessible tubs look behind the times.

Kohler always puts on a show at KBIS and this year in Las Vegas should be no different.

Oh what would I ever do with a bathtub like this?

Better question may be, who do you invite to come over and jump in with you?

This leather and glass beauty is by Gruppo Treese and is called Milo- the two-seater, leather and glass bathtub crosses every trend barrier out there and charts its on course.

Friday Find - The Diamond Bathtub

Now that Pantone has "Honeysuckled" our world, it only seems fitting that we'd get a pink, shimmery bathtub to talk about.

Lori Gardner spent three years on "The Diamond Bathtub" project, attaching exactly 44,928 rose pink Swarovski crystals to a quite traditional claw-foot bathtub. According to Gardner, part of the fun is to discover the single diamond among the crystals.

It certainly isn't my taste, but neither was the Shoe-tub. Have to give the creator some credit, appears that no space was left bare!

Friday Find - Kallista Archeo Tub

Rarely can a single piece of furniture or fixture fit in to so many different design schemes. Kallista hit the nail on the head with the Archeo Copper Tub.
